NSLC Part 2

This is part 2 of the amazing NSLC adventure!!

So I got on the plane to go to San Francisco California!! I sat with two girls who very interesting and you could tell they were from California, but I didn't know the ice skating was so popular in California, there is no snow, so I didn't think it would be that popular but they love it. So while Lauren was in front of me listening to her I-pod, I played card games with the girls as the flight went on. At the beginning I was getting destroyed mostly because they cheated or because I didn't know the rules!! Then later on in the flight I was dominating the girls and they didn't like that, so we stopped playing and right as we stopped playing we were coming in to San Francisco airport. That was the freakiest decedent ever!! We were over the water and it looked liked we were going to land in the water so I was a little freaked out by this, but we landed on the landing strip which was there all a long! I was finally here, I had been waiting for this all summer!! Me and Lauren got off the plane and stayed together. We went to get our bags and then we went to were NSLC was to supposed to be to pick us up and there they were. I saw everyone there, and I was like I am not going to fit in. First person to greet me was Buddy!! When I first saw, I was like to myself, Buddy is going to be awesome!! Then I learned he was also my TA I was even more stoked!! Then I mt Alex another awesome guy!! Then I went and sat down with everyone and started talking to everyone!!! I was shy, but everyone I met there were so awesome and so welcoming, so I was pretty pumped about NSLC!!

Then we went and got out stuff and then we got on the Bus, this is were I got to meet Monica and learn more about her, and she is pretty awesome. I also learned that she was going to be with my group as an intern!! If I remember right there was no one from sports writing on the bus with me so I was disappointed with that!! On the Bus we all really bonded and became a big group when we got there!! When we finally got to Berkley and NSLC we were surprised to see that we were going to be staying in nice dorms!! One of the teens on the Bus Nick, me and him clicked real fast! I was hoping he was my suite mate but alas no. We went through the whole procedure and we meet most of the staff which was really cool! I remember getting my picture taken by James, getting a binder and water bottle from Kelly or Deborah and getting our keys from Ms. Locke.

Then me and Nick when venturing off to try and find our dorms I think we took the elevator 4 times, until we finally found Slottman! When we finally got to our suites my roommate wasn't there yet, so I went and unpacked a little bit, I really wanted to know who my roommate was going to be and hoping he was nice. After I unpacked a little, I went down to see if the barbecue was still going on and it had just ended, luckily I had lots of extra food to eat, so I just had half a sandwich and some cheezits. We also started to meet each other and say hi, see if there was anyone in our groups or not. There was one girl was extremely nice to everyone she met her name was Mia. She was nice to everyone and wanted to include everyone, it was so awesome and I want to thank Mia for teaching me lots of stuff while I was out at NSLC. Of course all the guys were scoping out girls, seeing who were the cute ones. I thought all of them were very cute and very nice. I was still the quite one at the beginning though, I didn't say much those first couple hours. Then we went on a tour of campus with this nice student!! It was lots of fun we all went in a pack together and I was always asking where is Cal Stadium? can we go to Cal stadium? She always said no or its not in the boundaries.

Then it was time for dinner, which the first day sucked really badly except for the pizza, I don't really think you can screw up pizza. Then we went back to our suites and changed, and I saw and finally met my roommate Emile. We had to get into professional attire, I showed him how to tie a tie. It was cool nice little bonding experience. Then we got into our TA groups, we were the Sports Broadcasting group, which was the best group, and most competitive group, and had 11 different personalities also. It was cool meeting everyone and we all clicked right away, everyone liked each other, it was so awesome, I felt really good, and not nervous anymore. At the opening ceremony our TA Buddy was A-Rod or A-Roid which ever u prefer, and all the TA's put a press conference on for us and we got to meet all of them, which was awesome. Then after the opening ceremony, we had our first TA meeting which was fun, it really bonded us even more and broke the ice for everyone. We first did a game with Starburst, and we had to say different things for each color. Bryson took like a million and he ate them all and it was so funny, and i had all reds!! This is also were we started calling Buddy "Papa Elf"and then I came up with the team name ELVES!!! We also played a game where we a sheet in front of us and we had 2 teams we had to try to guess the other person name first, it was so funny, some cheated, some ticked each other, but my team did win in the end!! Then we went on a walk and Papa Elf showed us the boundaries it was pretty creepy!! We went past this pizza place and we saw a drug deal go down, and then went passed a club, and some one went passed us and I thought said see you in the grave in 5 years,he actually said see you in the Rave aka name of club in 5 years!! We got back to campus and then we went to our separate dorms!! We were pretty calm on the first night, we had RA check in and everything was cool!! That was just the first day!!!

I will tell you more in my next blog!!

NSLC Part 1

I went to a conference this summer called the National Student leadership Conference. I had never heard of such a conference before in my life, so at first I thought it was a scam until I looked into it more. I thank God that I looked into it more because if I hadn't and I had just written it off, I wouldn't have made 100 new friends that I will have for a lifetime, also memories that will also last a lifetime.

It all started when I got this big envelope from Chicago and it said NSLC Exclusive Invitation to Bobby Tull. I am like this looks cool and its for me sweet! Then I got suspicious I had never heard of it before, and then it said I got nominated by one of my teachers cool. They sent me all this awesome stuff which looked really cool, and then I was looking at the cost I am like yeah right! This is so much money it looks awesome but I will never be able to afford this. Well my Awesome Grandpa stepped in and said he will pay for it. Time passed and never was able to get to the application, until about 5 days before it was due! Then it was 2 days before it was due! I got all the stuff together and faxed in, I got the application done online, but I was like yeah I turned my application in so late that I wont get in!!

Well a week or 2 later I got the letter that said I was accepted!!!! I was so thrilled and happy I couldn't believe that I was going to NSLC which I had never heard of before, and now I get to go to California and be in San Fransisco which also had never been to before! I was so pumped I couldn't wait to go. I was also really nervous about it to.What about if no one likes me there. What about if I have a terrible time and get nothing out of it! Lots of questions of doubt!! Then the money question arose again what about the clothes we have to get I don't have all this neat attire stuff ahhhhhh!! Well luckily thank God for the Salvation Army Store, Marshals, and T.J Max we found lots of nice stuff for a lot less!! I was wondering if there any other people from Michigan going to this NSLC at Berkley. So we found that there was one other student coming from Michigan her name was Lauren Schmidt! Well we didn't really hit it off with a band when we first meet at a Bob Evans in Ann Arbor a week before we were suppose to leave. It looked like she didn't even want to go. We didn't talk to much, which was excepted, the moms did most of the talking and starting up the conversation. So when the awkward experience was over, I need a few more clothing items and then I need to start to pack!! This was going to be first time on a plane all by myself! This was also going to be the first time that I was going to be away for this long, this far way from home!!

I was pretty nervous. We did all the little detail packing the night before and we finished packing about midnight! We got to the airport and it was pretty crazy, especially when it came to security! We were at the front of the line for security and they weren't going to allow my thought because she didn't have a gate pass to come with me, so they said I had to go with her, and she told me to go on and I thought we weren't going to be able to say good bye. I got back into the front of the line and my mom got her pass and got back even before i got all the way through security. She got through security even faster than me!! We went and got some breakfast and then we took the tram to the gate which was all the way at the end of the terminal!! Me and my mom said our last good byes as I boarded the plane, for Cal Berkley for 2 weeks. who knew that it would be a 2 weeks I would never forget, and it would create friends for a lifetime and an experience of a lifetime!
